Rawson Developers launch new project in Durbanville

Fulfilling a promise made at the end of last year that his company would seek out new sites and continue with residential development despite the higher interest rates and the stricter limitations imposed by the National Credit Act, Paul Henry, MD of Rawson Developers and Homebuilders, announced this week that his team is going ahead with a new project in the heart of Durbanville. Construction has already begun.

The development, said Henry, will be known as "Village Walk" and will be one of the few in the Greater Cape Town area to offer a genuine 'walk-to-all- amenities' lifestyle: retail centres, a gymnasium, restaurants, a library, offices and other facilities are all within a few minutes easy stroll of the centrally situated site.

Village Walk will consist of twelve units in two double storey blocks. Nine units will have three bedrooms and three will have two bedrooms. A very real effort, said Henry, had been made to find quality finishes for the project. Laminated wooden floors and solid wood windowsills, doors and architraves will be used throughout. The buildings will be modern in appearance but will have such Victorian features as rooftop finials, plaster mouldings around the windows and canopies over the doors.

'Our architect, Gordon Hart, has, I believe, come up with a style that is appropriate to this historic village centre known and liked by so many Capetonians for the last 70 or more years,' said Henry.

Henry added that in planning the village originally (several months ago) Rawsons had foreseen the likelihood of power cuts and the council decision to hold back on allowing certain developments until power is available for them from Eskom. Village Walk, he said, will comply with the Councils greening proposals by having solar heating hot water systems and gas hobs in the kitchens '“ and has been guaranteed power from Eskom from the outset.

The project also, he said, meets with most buyers calls for stringent security measures and will have a comprehensive security system including an electronically controlled entrance.

Prices are pitched from R875 000. A R10 000 deposit will secure the sale. The agents handling the sale are Rawsons Durbanville franchise owned by Annatjie Verster who can be contacted on 083 261 6835 or 021 975 2124 and Rawson Developers and Homebuilders, whose contact person is Trevor Weston-Green 021 658 7100 or 082 783 4393.
