Gansbaai, in previous eras, the much loved traditional holiday destination of upcountry farmers, has in the last two decades gained a name as a base from which tour organisations arrange whale watching and cage diving to view South Africa’s Great White sharks.
The latest offering from Rawson Auctions is a large triple storey 700 m2 nine bedroom, five bathroom Gansbaai home which is perfectly designed to serve this ever-growing tourist trade.
The home, which will come up for auction at 12 noon on 19th June at the Rawson Property Group’s head office at 222 Main Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, is configured to serve as a hospitality venue. It has an open plan kitchen and dining area in which there is a central freestanding fireplace — and its balconies offer views of the entire bay.
The finishes throughout the home, said Tanya Jovanovski, franchise principal for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, are upmarket: the bedrooms have laminated wood floors and the communal areas are attractively tiled. The bedrooms, though small, are provided with ample cupboard space.
The home is just one row off the seafront. If not used as a bed and breakfast, said Jovanovski, it would be suitable as a family/retirement home.
The reserve price has been set at R 2,8 million, which, said Jovanovski, is about 30% of what such a sumptuous home would cost in any of the better known Cape Town suburbs.
Rawson Auctions do not charge a bidder’s registration fee, but their mandatory conditions do include paying a 5% deposit and a 10% commission plus VAT to the auctioneer on the fall of the hammer.
This year, said Jovanovski, the call for country and coastal homes of this type has been very strong.
“There is a growing demand for rural getaways, especially those which can serve as hospitality venues, either for part of the year or year-round,” she said.
