Rawson Auctions' dominant presence in the Overberg Southern Cape coastal area has been enhanced by their being awarded another Gansbaai farm to auction.
Sited just outside Gansbaai on the Caledon Road, this 43 ha farm, known as Three Fountains Farm, was at one stage a major supplier of fresh produce to Gansbaai, which is still a quaint fishing village despite having become a major tourist and shark watching destination. Now that the local produce retailing market is supplied mainly by the big supermarket chains from Cape Town, the farm, which has abundant year-round water supplies from its three fountains, still has great potential for small crop farming or livestock holding.
“The soils here,” said Tanya Jovanovski, co-franchisee for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, “support most vegetation, including mixed grass pastures. As there are two modern homesteads on the farm, this property could be an ideal buy for someone wishing to relocate from the city and to be involved in a not too strenuous way with agriculture.”
The sale, which will be by silent tender (with bids being submitted prior to the auction date), will take place at 12 noon on 29th January 2014. The venue will be the Rawson Property Group’s head office at 222 Main Road, Rondebosch.
Jovanovski has recommended that offers begin at around R2,5 million, which is roughly the price that just one of the homesteads would fetch if it were put up for sale in the Greater Cape Town area.
“By any standards this is a great opportunity for a downscaler,” said Jovanovski.
Rawson Auctions do not impose a bidding fee but they do insist on a deposit of 5% and an auctioneer’s commission of 10% being paid on the fall of the hammer. Potential bidders are reminded that South Africa’s Consumer Protection Act stipulates that all bidders have to register with the auctioneer and produce ID documents and proof of residence.
