R20 million home sale in Bishopscourt could herald the start of a sales revival in this area

One of the most prestigious homes in Bishopscourt, a classic contemporary home in Canterbury Drive, has been sold by Nancy Todd, a co-franchisee with Eugene Pienaar of the Rawson Property Group’s Constantia franchise. The home was listed as being open to offers of R19,5 million or more and this price was exceeded — but the final sale price has not been revealed.

The buyer of the home, which is on a 3,792 m2 erf and has 1,200 m2 of floor area, was referred to the Rawson Property Group’s Constantia franchise by Piet van der Merwe, the Rawson Property Group’s franchisee for Hout Bay.

“There is a very healthy flow of referrals among many Rawson franchises,” says Tony Clarke, Managing Director of the Rawson Property Group. “This is evidence of great working relationships between the franchisees and agents.”

The home has five large bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and five spacious reception rooms with spectacular views of Table Mountain’s southern spine and Devil’s Peak.  The upper and lower floors are linked by a marble staircase with an ornate, custom forged, wrought iron balustrade and the home has many other exceptional finishes.

Also part of the complex are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gymnasium, a Jacuzzi, a lift, a tennis court and a squash court with laser scoring.  The garden is automatically irrigated and the home has state-of-the-art intruder prevention systems throughout. Garaging for eight cars is provided below the ground floor level with ample storage facilities.

Nancy Todd said that this sale adds to the growing band of evidence that, although prices in upper bracket South African housing are now beginning to firm up and stabilize, incredibly good value is still obtainable in homes valued at R10 million plus and this, she said, should be of special interest to those buying with First World currencies.
