“From the outset,” says Tanya Jovanovski, franchisee for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, “the standards to which the developers of Port Owen worked were exceptionally high. This means that today there is no one home in the entire precinct that seriously detracts from its overall appeal – and there are no inexpensive homes here. Even after a three year downturn in property prices, the entire project retains its exclusive luxury feel and is still home to about 15% of the Cape’s best known yachtsmen.”
Jovanovski and her partner, Victor Schönborn, will on 20thJune at the Rawson Rondebosch head office be auctioning one of the largest and finest homes ever built at Port Owen. Known as Villa Iona, it was owner built with input from West Coast architect, Hein Gerstner, and engineer, Chris Tomson.
It has an almost incredible list of facilities: three double suites, each with its own bathroom, a 12m x 7m sitting room, a drawing room with a fireplace, an exceptionally spacious dining room, an entrance hall, with a Swarovski crystal window, a penthouse, air-conditioned with his and her bathrooms and white marble finishes, a guest suite with its own living room, fully fitted gourmet kitchen and laundry, a study, open plan office, with its own cloakroom and kitchenette, a large heated swimming pool with its own thatched lapa and entertainment area, a garage with a full workroom and a fully established, automatically irrigated garden. A central courtyard is home to a large Koi pond with thriving fish stocks.
The home, which, says Jovanovski, is “the absolutely last word in luxury”. There is, too, a Beneteau yacht (which will be auctioned separately) and the home has its own marina mooring right on the doorstep. The yacht club is close by.
“This home in fact covers two whole erven,” says Jovanovski, “and is protected by an encircling wall and electronic gates."
“We are expecting offers around R8 million, however all offers will be reviewed by the owner– and we are expecting interest from overseas bidders.”
