On Wednesday 4th September at 12 noon, Rawson Auctions will once again be taking over the Rawson Property Group’s head office boardroom on the corners of Main and Klipper Roads in Rondebosch to auction another farm, this time in the Overberg.

The fruit farm, known as Harmonie, is in the Keisie Valley in Montagu and has 69 ha of land which is mainly used to cultivate peaches, gooseberries and apricots. It is surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains, most of which are covered in fynbos. These mountains provide water year-round to two dams on the farm and this water supply is supplemented by water from two boreholes, both fully equipped to produce approximately 15 m3 per hour.

The farm, said Tanya Jovanovski, co-franchisee for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, like other farms in the area, has an established reputation for producing quality fruit. Here 25 ha are under irrigation for fruit, a further 0,5 ha is used to cultivate the white French wine grape variety Colombard and 1 ha is under lucerne.

There are two houses on the property, each with ± 250 m2 of floor area. Both were built in the traditional Cape style with white plastered walls, straight line gables and wooden floors.

The main house has four bedrooms, one bathroom, a family room, a kitchen and a stoep as well as a garage for three cars. The garden is fully irrigated and has been intensively cultivated to be one of the most beautiful in the Montagu district.

The second house, said Jovanovski, has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a family room and a kitchen. There are also two labourers’ cottages on the property.

Jovanovski said that anyone contemplating becoming involved in fruit farming here would find that professional advice is available through co-ops and organisations which provide extension offices, either free or at a low cost.

Jovanovski said that this farm, in her opinion, represents an excellent buy and offers of R3,3 million will be considered at the auction. Viewing can be arranged by appointment with herself on 082 411 9599 or with Victor Schonborn on 083 792 4169.

The conditions under which Rawson Auctions are conducted stipulate that a 10% auctioneer’s commission and a 5% deposit on the sales price must be paid on the fall of the hammer. No bidder’s registration fees are charged.
