The industrial area of Parow includes Parow Industrial, Parow East, Parow Valley as well as Beaconsfield. Parow was incorporated into the municipal area of Tygerberg in the 1990s, but as early as the 1960s it was already developing into an important commercial hub.

Location and Access

Parow is one of the northern suburbs of Cape Town, having amongst others, Richmond Estate, Clamhall, Leonsdale, Loevenstein, Ravensmead, Belhar, Beaconvale in addition to Avondale in close proximity. Cape Town harbour lies 21 kilometres away with Cape Town International Airport  just 11 kilometres from Parow, but less than five kilometres from Parow Industrial.

Major roads such as the N1, situated a short distance to the north, the R102 bisecting the area in an east-west direction, the M10, M12, M16 besides the M29 traversing the suburb in a north-south direction ensure ease of movement. Having several arterial roads crisscrossing the district, Parow has excellent access to all points of the compass, making it ideal for distribution of manufactured goods.

Commercial and industrial property

The industrial areas in Parow have grown exponentially, having proved popular with many foremost manufacturing or retail businesses. Greater Parow is not merely a commercial hub, having residential suburbs, sectional title apartment buildings along with some housing estates. Besides its local shopping centres Parow also has access to many shops or malls in the surrounding suburbs.  A number of pre-primary, primary and secondary schools are scattered throughout the area, with more in the adjacent district. UNISA’s Parow Tertiary Institution plus the School of Technology are located here. Few hotels exist in Parow, but guest houses or B&Bs make up for that lack. Parow Medicross Hospital in addition to nearby Tygerberg Hospital offer medical support. Cinemas are located in Parow Centre while the Civic Centre provides a varied menu of sporting or other events.  Parow Golf Course provides exercise, fresh air, besides an attractive setting. Given the central location of the area, city or countryside, wine-lands or beaches, mountains or nature reserves are all just a few kilometres away.
