Having experienced it for the first time in 40 years, Rawson commends high density sectional title urbanised living

To the surprise of his friends and family, Bill Rawson, Chairman of the Rawson Property Group, has bought a large penthouse suite in the upmarket Rawson Development The Beaumont in Claremont and he has made it clear that this would now become his primary home.

Rawson, a keen cyclist and mountain walker, recently admitted he had been “more than apprehensive” about this radical move from a large Bishopscourt home with a garden to a 12th storey apartment in a high density area – even though his unit has stunning mountain views and a large patio.

Now, having experienced this lifestyle, said Rawson, he can testify that it is not only very convenient but actually pleasurable and economical.

“It is big relief to be able to leave the majority of the maintenance and upkeep problems as well as the municipal and other bills to the trustees.  It is also very comforting to feel that my possessions and myself are more secure and protected than they ever could have been in a freestanding home.  The levies, rates and taxes we are required to pay are significantly lower than those of the rates and taxes on a large freestanding home and it is also, I find, stimulating to feel one is part of the humming social hub that Claremont has become.  Any resident in The Beaumont can walk to Cavendish Square and some 10 or 20 other restaurants and entertainment facilities.  If one does choose to travel by car, it is easily and safely parked in a secure basement.”

The big fear facing most people who are contemplating this type of move, said Rawson, is that if they value their privacy they may find that this cheek by jowl living with one’s neighbours can lead to interference and disruption.  However, he was pleased to say that this had not been his experience and his life was just as private as ever before.

“Everyone I meet in the foyer and the lift is polite and non-intrusive.  It is definitely possible to be private in a complex of this kind as anywhere else.”

Units in The Beaumont are appreciating at over 10% per annum.  From a financial viewpoint therefore, said Rawson, any purchaser here can congratulate himself on making a good buy, one that will continue to gain value for the foreseeable future.
