Golden opportunity for a conservation-minded residential developer to make a real contribution

Unlike many auction houses, Rawson Auctions took no break over the December festive season and continued to win mandates – and scheduled to come up for auction on 29th January is a 34 ha nature reserve set amongst beautiful fynbos covered hills near Gansbaai. The estate is just two hours’ drive from Cape Town. (Gansbaai lies just east of Hermanus, from which it is roughly 35 km away).

Tanya Jovanovski, co-franchisee for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, said that the reserve is “a perfect gem”, with high waterfalls, walking trails, mountain outcrops and koppies and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

“This property,” she said, “is the sort that will appeal strongly to those conservationists who would like to play a part in preserving the unique flora and fauna of the Western Cape. Fynbos which, it has to be recorded, is found nowhere else in the world and comprises the sixth and the smallest of the world’s floral kingdoms.”

Zoning for 14 x 450 m2 residential sites, each with a house footprint of 150 m2, has already been received.

The auction will take place at 12 noon at the Rawson Property Group’s head office, 222 Main Road, Rondebosch (on the corners of Main and Klipper Roads). Jovanovski has recommended that bids start at R1,7 million. The auction is by silent tender – bids need to be in by the 29th of January.

Rawson Auctions do not charge a bidder’s fee, but their terms and conditions stipulate that 5% deposit of the selling price and a 10% commission plus VAT on commission have to be paid on the fall of the hammer.
