Calitzdorp auction will bring four main street properties to the market

The charming Klein Karoo town of Calitzdorp will see four properties in its main street auctioned in the near future. Tanya Jovanovski and Victor Schonborn, co-franchisees for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, will be holding the auction on site at 30 Voortrekker Road on the 6th of April at 12 noon.

The properties to come under the hammer are all inter-linked, some are built on and some are not. The first is:

·         Erf 504. A 479 m2 plot which is zoned for commercial use and currently has an art gallery, a general goods shop and a tea garden on it, as well as a two bedroom cottage with an office, lounge/dining area, a kitchen and a bathroom.

Jovanovski said that the buyer could probably continue renting out the gallery and the cottage at its current rate of R4,000 per month.

·         Erf 505 which is zoned for commercial use and Erf 506 which is zoned for residential use.  These plots, which together cover 863 m2, are both vacant.  They are almost identical in size, the one being 431 m2 and the other 432 m2.  Fronting onto Calitzdorp’s main street, said Jovanovski, they offer huge potential as both a residence and a business.

·         Erf 507 which is zoned for residential use. This plot covers 382 m2 and has a two bedroom cottage on it, which Jovanovski believes would make an ideal backpackers’ hostel – or provide a quiet country lifestyle for someone in search of a genuine getaway or retirement home.

The reserve price for all of the above has been set at R1,150,000.

“Calitzdorp, like many towns on Route 62,” said Jovanovski, “has a charm and character found only in towns in these remote country districts – and yet it is also the centre of a progressive agricultural community. Buying here could be both financially and spiritually rewarding.”

Those bidding at the auction must have their ID documents with them and should also have documents proving their place of residence. Rawson Auctions ask for a 5% deposit and a 10% auctioneers’ fee on the fall of the hammer. However they do not charge a bidder’s registration fee.
