Bantry Bay apartment coming up for auction represents the ultimate in Atlantic Seaboard chic

Apartments in Bantry Bay, Fresnaye and Clifton represent for many Capetonians, Joburg residents and international ‘swallows’ the pinnacle of luxury and convenience and the ultimate in relaxed lock-up-and-go entertainment and living. However, says Tanya Jovanovski, co-franchisee with Victor Schonborn for Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape, they come onto the market fairly seldom and when they do they tend to cost a small fortune.

That may not be the case when on the 18th of December, Jovanovski brings to the auction table a multi-level apartment in Bantry Bay — one of the best addresses on the entire Atlantic Seaboard. The recommended bidding start price here is R4,7 million, which, says Jovanovski, is probably R3 million off the true market value of an apartment of this sort.

“This home,” says Jovanovski, “is exactly the sort of sophisticated apartment that ambitious, socially mobile young managers and professionals see as being their passport to an enhanced status among their friends and business colleagues – it simply oozes chic living but it does so in a subtle way through the use of neutral colours and excellent finishes such as Travertine.”

A ground floor entertainment area in the apartment, says Jovanovski, leads into three bedrooms, all en suite, on the first floor, which in turn are linked by a freestanding staircase to the top floor with its open-plan living room, dining room and a highly sophisticated modern kitchen (fitted out with Miele appliances).

“From these communal rooms on the third level, the 180 degree ocean views are particularly impressive” says Jovanovski. “However all the rooms in the complex have the splendid views which have made Bantry Bay famous.”

Particularly efficient and attractive ‘extras’ in the home include temperature controlled glazing and haze elimination blinds, sophisticated down lighting with dimmers, a gas fireplace, air-conditioning in the bedrooms and living rooms, a fully secure perimeter wall and security system and, a specially attractive feature, a roof top entertainment area with a Jacuzzi and a plunge pool. There is also a double garage leading directly into the apartment, a feature which is sometimes missing in Bantry Bay homes.

The apartment will be auctioned at 12 noon by Rawson Auctions on 18th December, the venue for the auction being 222 Main Road, Rondebosch, the head office of the Rawson Property Group.

Rawson Auctions expect a 5% auctioneer’s deposit to be paid on the fall of the hammer as well as 10% commission plus VAT over and above the sales price. They do not charge a bidder’s registration fee, but in terms of the Consumer Protection Act all those attending auctions in South Africa today must have proof of identity and proof of residence.
