Meyersdal Eco Estate home prices now rival those of most upmarket precincts in South Africa

The traditional view that South Africa’s most opulent and luxurious homes are likely to be found in Johannesburg’s Sandton suburbs, Durban’s Kloof or Umhlanga areas and Cape Town’s Constantia is no longer accurate these days, says Bill Rawson, Chairman of the Rawson Property Group.

“Today,” says Rawson, “it might surprise people to learn that in the Meyersdal Eco Estate in Meyersdal, just 12 km to the south of Johannesburg, homes over R7 million are being sold as fast as anywhere else in South Africa and this precinct is becoming the new Houghton, the new Constantia.”

On the market right now, says Rawson, there are avant garde, modern homes in the Meyersdal Eco Estate priced at R7,250,000 to R39,500,000 – and one home near here has so high a price that it is only revealed on application.

The size of and the finishes in these homes, says Rawson, have set new benchmarks in South Africa. Almost all have at least 800 m2 of floor area and the additional features can include indoor and outdoor rim flow pools, gyms, squash and tennis courts (the former sometimes glass enclosed), indoor water features (in one case cascading from the upper to the lower floor), stacked doors, marble, travertine and imported wood flooring, rose, beech and oak cabinetry, imported kitchen equipment, home cinemas (in one case with full sound recording equipment), libraries, wine cellars, putt-putt, volleyball and bowling areas, bomas, club houses, automatic irrigation and even game viewing gazebos.

In all cases, too, says Rawson, security is state-of-the-art and garaging for a large number of cars is provided.

“What is surprising to those not au fait with the South African residential scene,” says Rawson, “is the speed at which Meyersdal has been developed. Two decades there were very few homes here - today luxury homes are found throughout the area and there is very little inexpensive or shoddy housing to detract from the overall high standard.”

Those wishing to find out more about Meyersdal, the Meyersdal Eco Estate and to find out for themselves why this area has boomed so spectacularly, says Rawson, can contact the Rawson Property Group’s Glenvista franchisee, Johan van Tonder on 083 268 7122 or jvt@rawson.co.za.
